Case of the month
Buffy swallowed a bottle top
Buffy presented to Pierson Stewart and Partners out of hours in December due to a painful tummy and vomiting. She was sedated straight away and x-rays were taken. The x-ray showed a round metal bottle top in her stomach which was causing the vomiting. There was also a second abnormality on the x-ray - a round mass in the middle of the abdomen.

Buffy was operated on straight away to have the bottle top removed from her stomach and investigation of the mass. It was found the mass was extremely large and attached to her spleen. This meant a splenectomy (removal of spleen) had to be performed aswell.
Buffy recovered well form her surgery intially but was struggling to keep any food down and was struggling to fight an infection. She was with us in the hospital for a couple of weeks having intesive care which involved her being on a drip, having antibiotics, anti sickness medication. It was touch and go at times. Buffy thankfully made a great recovery and was able to go home just before Christmas.
We are now pleased to annouce she is doing extremely well. Her owner sent us an e-mail saying:
'Buffy is doing brilliantly, you would never know that anything had happened to her, other than she is a lot trimmer than before! She is a character and we are very grateful to you all for saving her life and allowing us to spend more time with her.'
