Pet passports
There are certain criteria that must be met in order for you dog or cat to travel abroad with a pet passport.
There have been changes made to the pet passport scheme from the 1st January 2012. Below are the changes:
Requirements for the passport:
- Pet must be microchipped
- Rabies vaccination
- Get a PETS documentation
Things to note in addition to the above requirements:
- Your dog or cat may not enter the UK under PETS until 21 days from the Rabies vaccination
- Your pet must be treated against tapeworm 1 to 5 days before entering the UK and it must be checked in with an approved transport company for its journey into the UK
Pets that have already met the current requirements can still continue to re-enter the UK as before, provided their passport is kept up to date.
Please not that this only applies to approved countries so you should always check that the country you are travleing to is approved.
