If you’re preparing for a holiday or move abroad, we can help prepare your pet too
Do you travel abroad frequently, and perhaps prefer to take your pet with you rather than leave them in kennels or with a boarder? If so, make sure they’re prepared to travel and have all the necessary documentation and health checks before you go.
If you are entering or returning to the UK from a country within the EU, or a non-EU listed country, your pet must have:
- A microchip
- An up-to-date rabies vaccination – you must not travel within 21 days of the date of this vaccine
- An up-to-date tapeworm treatment (dogs only)
- A pet passport or official third country veterinary certificate
If you are entering the UK from any unlisted country, your pet must meet all of the above criteria and have also had a blood test at least 30 days after the date of their rabies vaccination. Your pet will not be allowed to travel within 3 months of the date that their blood sample was taken, unless they were given their vaccinations and blood test within the EU before travelling to an unlisted country.
You can find out more about the requirements of pet travel, and check which countries are ‘listed’ here.
Here at Pierson Stewart & Partners, we are more than happy to help you prepare your pet for travel and go through the necessary requirements with you should you need it. We also offer a ‘pet passport package’ which includes the microchip, rabies vaccination and essential documentation for travel.
